The 17' Star Board is an Olo. Olo board riding was reserved for the Hawaiian Royalty, and Olo's were rarely made. Tom Blake experimented with this design in the late 1920's after viewing one of these boards in the museum and wondering how they surfed. In 2003 Roy Stewart wondered the same thing. He set about designing the modern Olo. This board has a similar planshape as Tom Blake's board but features a round rail (not square), more rocker and a fin. (Tom's board was finless like the ancient boards)
Performance wise this board is mind blowing. Unlike surfing footage of ancient olo's , this Olo will make unbelievably long rides possible. In the picture below the rides were repeatedly 500 yards or so long. Roy reported a supernatural sensation of communing with the ancients. . .
